Nice book

Nice mix of designs (animals, landmarks, and more). Perfect for an adult who wants to try dot to dot for the first time or after many years absence. I would prefer a book with ring binding so it would lie open flat while working on a design but for the price I am very pleased.

In the Novel Quiet Strength,Tony Dungy walks us through his life as a Christian. He describes his childhood, where he learned from his parents on what living a Christian life should be like. He explained his struggles as he went through high school and college on how he didn’t know what his own relationship with Christ was. He then tells us how he begins to find his way and figure out what he wants. He takes us through his journey with his wife and family and all of the challenges they were faced with and how Christ helped them. Reading about Tony Dungy’s life and how he overcame so many obstacles while keeping a relationship with Christ made me feel like he was directly talking to me about my own personal struggles. The way he described each struggle he was faced with, made it feel like I was there, experiencing those obstacles along side of him. The way he wrote and described these obstacles allowed me to relate to them and understand his pain and joy through them. As I was reading the novel I found it hard to stay focused on the plot when he began to further explain the football games that were not relevant to the story at the time. I would highly suggest this novel to any athlete that has struggles, finding that they are playing for themselves rather than playing for Christ. This novel really makes you feel like you can do anything through Christ, and it will have a good outcome, no matter when that outcome happens. It is not only just for athletes but also for anyone who feels like they are struggling with life, or something they are passionate about. This novel really spoke to me personally as an athlete and a follower of Christ. If having to rate this novel, I would rate it an eight out of a ten. One of my favorite, most interesting, and personal books I have ever read.

Very Motivational and Inspirational

I was looking for a book that I would enjoy reading while also improving my practice of Christianity in everyday life. With football being one of my top interests, I decided that this book sounded like a good choice to try out, and it did not disappoint.

Tony describes the road that he has taken through life from early childhood all the way to the time that he wrote this book in 2008. He explains the difficult decisions that he had to make and how his relationship and faith in God helped him through the most challenging times and in the end made him a better person. Tony also tells his successes and how he truly believes the Lord used previous life experiences to prepare him for similar future ones.

Whether you are a football fan or not this book is extremely relatable and motivational. Tony draws on his career as an NFL player and coach because that is where he experienced some of his biggest challenges, but he also builds on the toughest times that his family endured. His ability to correlate a personal example to the numerous types of situations that we as humans face daily was spectacular. Tony does an amazing job of not only stating his regrets and contentment, but also elaborates on what signs he saw from God and how he was able to later reflect on them.

The effect of this book has made me want to change my way of living by constantly glorifying God and following his lead. Dungy also provided me with inspiration to continuously perform acts of kindness, regardless of its size because it could be something that changes a person’s life, as it did in his case. “Quiet Strength” was very deserving of its Bestseller accolade and is very much recommended for anyone interested in living a happier and more rewarding lifestyle.

Tony Dungy is extraordinarily represented in the beautiful memoir written by Nathan Whitaker that articulates the struggles and wonders of his amazing life journey. As I read this book the hope that came to my mind was the wish that more men would look at trials in life the way that Dungy has. As a professional athlete, and later a very successful NFL coach, Dungy displays the character of a God fearing man and what it looks like to live that life out in the football league. Quiet Strength speaks to a very special bond that fathers should long to have with their family. One must learn to lead with a soft heart and possess passion when in a position that compels you to change those around you, as others will pick up on your behavior like those around Dungy did, and use that passion to excite themselves in all that they do. I will be passing along this book to numerous family members as the season of Christmas is upon us, in hopes that they gain a new outlook on the opportunities that present themselves to us on a daily basis through the words of Dungy.

One of the most influential technical books ever written

In addition to providing a broad, albeit detailed introduction to UNIX, this book contains some of the most well-written and documented C code for students of the language. One chapter illustrates the construction of a simple calculator which gradually evolves into a stack-based virtual machine with a lex/yacc-based instruction set interpreter. The reader is guided through both the theory and practice of software design by demonstrating the almost "organic" growth of a complex software system out of a simpler one.
A definite must read.

This is a really neat book because of who wrote it and it's value to the history of Unix. It's a good read and very informative.
However, if you want to learn or get up to speed on Unix/Linux, this is not the book unless you are into Unix programming. Yes Unix is basically the same now as then but it has gone through some major evolving with different tools and servers. Check out my list of Unix books for learning Unix.

The vast expanses of southern Russia and the Ukraine provided the Eastern Front arena where the armies of Third Reich dictator Adolf Hitler and Soviet dictator Josef Stalin wrestled lethally for supremacy in 1943. Endless rolling plains – ideal “tank country” – vast forests, sprawling cities, and enormous tracts of agricultural land formed the environment over which millions of men and thousands of the era's most formidable military vehicles fought for their respective overlords and ideologies.

The winner could expect to reap very high stakes indeed. If Hitler's Wehrmacht smashed the Red Army, he could no longer hope for a lightning conquest, but the Fuhrer could expect the Soviet strongman to sue for peace on terms advantageous to Germany. If, conversely, the Red Army triumphed, Stalin could continue rallying the Soviet Union and move closer to expelling the loathed “Nemets” invaders from Russian soil – and perhaps carve out a Soviet empire in Central Europe.

Asserting that changes in the military leadership style of the two contending dictators explains the outcome of Kursk oversimplifies the actual situation. Logistics, the emergence of a body of experienced junior officers in the Red Army, American Lend-Lease shipments, German production problems, and other issues all contributed to the observed result.

However, the overarching factor tying everything together remained the changing approach of each leader to their army. At the start of the war, Hitler gave his commanders considerable initiative while Stalin fatally micromanaged his, and the Germans ripped vast hordes of Soviets to shreds with comparative ease. In late 1942 and moving into 1943, Hitler commenced micromanaging the Wehrmacht, and Stalin adopted a more “hands-off” approach permitting his commanders considerable initiative: “At the heart of the Red Army's lopsided tank losses was an amateurish and self-destructive style of decision imposed by Stalin […] In November 1942 there was a subtle shift in the Red Army, as months of military disasters finally caused Stalin to reduce some of his interference […] and allow quiet professionals such as Vasilevsky, Vatutin and Rokossovsky to prepare proper offensives.” (Forczyk, 2013, 257).

Though the Wehrmacht remained too formidable and professional to collapse as readily as the appallingly low-quality Red Army had in 1941 and early 1942, the Red Army slowly got the upper hand and achieved strategic offensive momentum. That the shift occurred at the moment when Hitler hamstrung his generals with his melodramatic obstructionism while Stalin gave his some operational breathing room probably represents no accident.
Kursk represented the transitional battle during which the Red Army first demonstrated its new capabilities. The Soviets possessed better commanders than at the start of the war, a numerous soldiery, good-quality equipment (in particular, the T-34 tank), and the beginnings of a professional officer corps. Nevertheless, it required personal, ham-handed intervention by Adolf Hitler to transform Kursk from a probable hard-won Wehrmacht victory into a marginal but highly significant defeat.

Great read that eliminates some of the myths of the battle

The book the Battle of Kursk was quite interesting. The book is concise and one of its objectives is to eliminate myths that came about related to the battle. The authors indicated that they had access to former Soviet Union archives and Nazi battle reports. The first myth is that the greatest tank battle in history was fought during this series of engagements. The book covered several other myths and I suggest you read about them. The Allied invasion of Sicily indirectly played a great role in forcing Hitler to take the reserve Panzer Divisions to reinforce Italy and other areas instead of continuing the Battle of Kursk. This book contains a lot of information about the technical aspects of the German and Soviet tanks.

"Left Behind" series

My husband was loaned "left behind" and recommend I read it, but, I never got around to it. He really enjoyed reading it. A relitive had loaned him a few of the other books in the series to read and one day, having nothing better to do, I started reading book 2, I couldn't put it down!! I then went out and bought "Left Behind"(book one) and was glad I started with book 2. I love the series!! I never read, I can never finish any book. I found myself rushing out to buy every next book in the series. I finished all 9 books(thus far)in the series in just 3 weeks!!! I would highly recommend this book to eveyone.
