It is a great resource for planning out a Microservice Architecture. The reference implementation is a great example for building these solutions and can easily be built using other cloud platforms besides Azure.

Not deep enough

From a generalists perspective this is not deep enough on Microservices or IoT - but quite likely very good if you want to build something running on Azure.

Chapter 1: From Monolithic to Microservice - more or less states that you have to be able to do what is expected of an agile team deploying microservices, that is really lacking depth.
Chapter 2: What is a Microservice - seems to have a common understanding of the definition, less on the "How to make (a good) one"
Chapter 3: Microservice Architecture - again this seems to land in the common understanding. Focus on Separation of Concerns
Chapter 4: Azure, a Microservice Platform - nice introduction on Azure I think
Chapter 5: Automation - or perhaps better named "Automation with Azure" as it is a very thorough walk through of how, why, and what with regards to automation using Azure.
Chapter 6: Microservice Reference Implementation - exactly what it says
Chapter 7: IoT and Microservices - this is more in the IoT = app (MicroSoft) and how to setup a backend with analytics on Azure

Lesley Tsina is comedy writer and actor who has appeared on Community, Black-ish, Funny or Die Presents and was Contributing Editor for cult humor anthology series The Devastator. She is a former technical writer, so her last book was a pile of documentation about cell phone ringtones which the New York Times described as “gripping.” She performs at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and tours with a one-woman show about being laid off from a tech company, Lord of the Files. She is originally from Palo Alto, CA, and it shows.

If you like oral histories full of strange, rich inside baseball stories, you will love this richly imagined behind the scenes world of Microsoft. It's better than the SNL oral history because this one doesn't have Chevy Chase.

Who knew Computer makings could be so ‘strange’ If you want a giggle this is the one read to dig into. A different read for me but one that definitely held my attention, or whom -did it? / You have to wonder what will readers in the future who get their hands on this book think? Interesting. About the Author

After receiving his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in 1980, Eric Roberts taught at Wellesley College from 1980-85, where he chaired the Computer Science Department. From 1985-90, he was a member of the research staff at Digital Equipment Corporation’s Systems Research Center in Palo Alto, California, where he conducted computer science research, focusing on programming tools for multiprocessor architectures. In September 1990, Roberts joined the Stanford faculty, where he is now Professor of Computer Science and the John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn University Fellow in Undergraduate Education.

From 1990 to 2002, Professor Roberts was Associate Chair and Director of Undergraduate Studies for Computer Science. In that capacity, he was the principal architect of Stanford’s introductory programming sequence, which for many years held the distinction of being the largest course at Stanford. He has also written four computer science textbooks that are used at many colleges and universities throughout the world. His research focuses on computer science education, particularly for underserved communities. From 1998 to 2005, Roberts was Principal Investigator for the Bermuda Project, which developed the computer science curriculum for Bermuda’s public secondary schools.

While at Stanford, Professor Roberts has received several university- level teaching awards, including the Bing Fellowship, established “to recognize excellence in teaching and a committed interest to the teaching of undergraduates”; the Dinkelspiel Award, which recognizes “distinctive and exceptional contributions to undergraduate education”; and the Laurance and Naomi Carpenter Hoagland Prize, awarded for excellence in undergraduate teaching. In January 2002, Roberts was named one of the first eight University Fellows in Undergraduate Education, which are designed “to reward faculty who make truly outstanding contributions to Stanford’s undergraduate experience.”

Professor Roberts has been active in professional organizations dedicated to computer science education. From 2005 to 2007, he served as co-chair of the Education Board of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and was for many years on the board of the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE). From 1998 to 2001, Roberts served as co-chair and principal editor for the ACM/IEEE- CS Joint Task Force on Computing Curricula 2001, which published a detailed set of curriculum guidelines in December 2001. He also chaired the ACM Java Task Force from 2004 to 2006. In 2003, Roberts received the SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education. Professor Roberts is a Fellow of the ACM and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Professor Roberts has also been active in several organizations seeking to promote socially responsible use of science and technology. He is past president of both Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, a public-interest organization of computer scientists and other professionals concerned about the impact of computer technology on society, and Student Pugwash USA, which encourages students to use their training in science and technology to create a better world. In 1999-2000, Roberts was the Eugene M. Lang Visiting Professor for Social Change at Swarthmore College.

Great book! The "SICP of C ?"

Haven't worked through the whole book yet, but I will say that I have other C or imperative-paradigm data structures book.
The topics are very meaningful: thorough emphasis on recursion (usually misunderstood by C programmers), backtracking (in games - yes, fun!), graphs, trees, that is, the standard gammut of topics, but all written amidst a very interesting text that makes a person who loves programming to never let the book down, because of all the /usefull/ stuff that's in it. For instance, he uses an editor as the common thread to discuss buffers, then implents it using arrays, stack, and linked lists. You end up having a /practical/ introduction to those issues and the implications therein. This is not "practical" in the sense that it's "dumb". This is "real" as in "real GOOD, USEFUL, WELL WRITTEN, WELL DESIGNED" code. C hacking as it should be done.
The code is written in crystal clear style (which is amazing for a C book), the author is keen on abstraction and library reuse. The excercises are great, and not dumb and mechanic.
There isn't any book like this one for C out of the several that I've seen.
If you want to learn C, after you learn the basics, this is THE book. I guess the other reviewer is right when he says that this must be the "SICP for C." And if you know anything about programming, you know that this is a big compliment.
The author is an Applied Mathematics graduate from Harvard and a professor at Stanford.
An excellent, excellent text! Addictive reading!

A CLASSIC!

I have read through many books on data structures and algorithms (including the famous one from O'Reiley publishers), however I have no doubt that this is probably the best book on this subject. The author has put tremendous effort to generate amazing libraries for all the basic Data Structures. The exercise questions are very good as well. Also there is plenty of REAL programing examples, like implementation of editors, etc.. I just wish that Eric Roberts decides to write a similar book for java.

Having taken Dr. Roberts' course for the last two quarters, I can say without a doubt that his book is the best available for learning how to think like a programmer and how to actually code. In the course of four months with his two books, I have learned more about computers than I thought possible.
These books are the best way to begin learning about the exciting field of computer science.

A thoughtful all-rounder on Document Control from an industry professional

The author spotted a gap in the literature on Document Control and was very kind to share his professional experience from a "document hungry" multinational company in order to fill it. This book offers great insight into the many aspects of the world of Document Control (document life cycle, governance, quality assurance, procedures etc.) and is a good reference for all those who would like to have a concise handbook in one place rather than spending hours in browsing through scattered list of internet articles that cover specific segments in detail. Although a book on document control can be considered dry material, his lean and humorous style (“an antelope running in the plains of Africa can be considered a document”) will make sure that you will easily find your way through it.

About the Author

Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867–1957) was born in a log cabin in the Wisconsin woods. With her family, she pioneered throughout America’s heartland during the 1870s and 1880s, finally settling in Dakota Territory. She married Almanzo Wilder in 1885; their only daughter, Rose, was born the following year. The Wilders moved to Rocky Ridge Farm at Mansfield, Missouri, in 1894, where they established a permanent home. After years of farming, Laura wrote the first of her beloved Little House books in 1932. The nine Little House books are international classics. Her writings live on into the twenty-first century as America’s quintessential pioneer story.

Ren�e Graef received her bachelor's degree in art from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is the illustrator of numerous titles in the Little House publishing program, as well as Rodgers and Hammerstein's My Favorite Things and E.T.A Hoffman's The Nutcracker, adapted by Janet Schulman. She lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, with her husband and two children.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I am the mother of a two year old daughter and was delighted to find the magic of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books captured in a format that is perfect for small children. As a child, I became fascinated with the adventures of Laura, Mary and their baby sister Carrie. Prairie Day is a synopsis of the Little House on the Prairie book. With vivid drawings that have been inspired by the artwork on the original covers by Garth Williams, Renee Graef manages to convey the story in pictures that have captured the imagination of my daughter. I look forward to sharing with her the original books in the future, but meanwhile we will continue to enjoy the series of books that Prairie Day is a part of.

I absolutely love the whole My First Little House series. Beautiful artwork and lovely, simple language that captures the heart and feeling of the original little house books but makes them accessible for younger readers. Just a great series of picture books!

I love Don Miguel Ruiz's take on the voice in our heads; I am thrilled that he was able to pass down this Toltec knowledge. he puts things in great perspective and addresses it in such a way that it is simple and makes sense. These are all thoughts that I have had about the voice of knowledge and the story of Adam and Eve and the tree of knowledge. Regardless of your religious background (as I am spiritual person who was brought up Catholic) I truly love his take on the prince of lies.

About the Author
Imray Laurie Norie & Wilson Ltd was formed in 1904 when three private chart publishing firms amalgamated. Each of these London companies had a long history going back to the mid-18th century. James Imray and Son published an extensive list of charts and pilot books. RH Laurie and Sons was associated with charts published for the East India Company. Norie and Wilson, founded by JW Norie, whose Nautical Tables are still supplied to navigators across the world, produced charts and books on navigation and sold nautical instruments.Until 1939 we were based in the City of London, where long serving cartographers produced charts from copper plate engravings which were supplied to mariners throughout the World. For over a century Blueback Charts were the first choice of many shipping companies. Now based in St Ives in Cambridgeshire, Imray charts are produced digitally for printed and electronic editions by our drawing office team. Our catalogue of yachting charts is regarded by the sailing community as the most comprehensive available. Our paper charts are complemented by a growing list of electronic publications and high quality pilot books by leading authors.
