About the Author
Susan qualified in medicine in 1987 from Southampton University and undertook GP training in Northamptonshire and Cheshire, England. She was a GP principal in training practices in Manchester and York. She taught communication skills in the Department of General Practice at Leeds University from 1995 to 2000. Susan moved to the desert region of Central Australia nearly ten years ago and found an oasis of opportunities in medical education, research and politics. She worked at Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and in private practice at Bath Street Medical Centre. She was the Chair of the Central Australian Division of Primary Health Care, inaugural Chair of Northern Territory General Practice Education, a Medical Educator for the Remote Vocational Training Scheme and Chair of Living Waters Lutheran Primary School. Susan is now a GP and GP supervisor at Central Clinic, Alice Springs and provides the RFDS Rural Women's GP service at Ayers Rock Medical Centre, Yulara. She is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Educator Development with the Flinders University Rural Clinical School and a topic coordinator for the Master of Clinical Education program at Flinders. Susan is an examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners clinical examination, a Medical Educator for gplearning and writer for the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine StAMPS examination.

Great book about an amazing movie

Fans of the late Brandon Lee and of the movie "The Crow", I highly recommend this book. The book describes in detail of the events before and during the filming of "The Crow", from the creation of the comic book "The Crow" by James O' Barr... to the start of production... to the tragic shooting death of Brandon Lee... to finishing the film without Lee using computer technology and stunt doubles. It also talks about the other people involved in the movie, (i.e. actors, actresses, director, producer, stunt coordinator, etc...). This book not only describes the events that took place during the filming process, but also has a short, but informative bio on Brandon Lee before he took on the role as Eric Draven. The most gripping part of the book is when the author, Bridget Baiss, describes the events leading up the the shooting death of Brandon Lee, until his death on the operating table. It was so thoroughly described that I felt I was actually there to witness it for myself, it sent chills down my spine as I read it. For those who want to get the whole story of this amazing movie, and the tragedy that happened because of it, this is the book to read.

Such a wonderful Book~!

I really enjoyed reading "The Crow -Story behind the film"...every chapter,every page,EVERY WORD was exciting to read on through this book.Perhaps because I am such a Brandon Lee fan and still 'til this day do I believe that The Crow was arguably his best work ever..and this book tells it ALL~!......from its origins as first starting out being a comic book,trying to make this gothic love story into a film,the struggles of making the movie,of course the hugest tragedy which took the life of the young star,the cause of his death and how the movie was finished without the late Brandon Lee......the best part about this book was how the author got so much information from different cast and crew members who were all once part of the film....this was the best part about the book since I was so curious to know how each and every person who was responsible in making this film felt about making it and how they reacted to that fateful nite of the shooting .....as well as how they or if they ever learned to cope with this difficult experience.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to every CROW/Brandon Lee fan or anyone who once saw this film and became interested in what exactly happened on the set to this promising actor who had such a promising future .......I have collected many Brandon Lee memorabilias in almost the past decade but I must say that this book is definitely the most treasured one I have since it closes the ending chapter to the person I admire so much.

To Find Out What Really Happened . . . .

As a longtime Crow fan, I was interested in finding out exactly what happened behind the scenes during the production of the film. Baiss' book does an excellent job of providing this information, through the use of quotes taken from several crew and cast members. My only criticism is how poorly the book was written. I am not sure who the editor is, but the book is riddled with grammatical and typographical errors to the point where I don't understand how it made it to publication. Her flow is also a little difficult to follow in places, although this may simply be a result of Baiss being a first-time writer. Also, most of the major individuals involved in the production of this film, including the director, would not speak with Baiss, so the account is mainly from the view of several cast and technical crew members. I would, however, recommend it for those interested in what really happened during production of "The Crow." I came away knowing more than I had before, even if I had trouble wading through all the typos.

Good old doctor seuss

I was given this clever little book for my birthday last year (a gentle hint, perhaps, to get me on the right path?), and while I can't imagine paying [$$$] for it, that's about the only criticism I can dredge up. Anything by the good doctor is brilliant, of course. Anything he touches is magic. And we will always laugh.

Have Some Good Laughs About Organizational Stalls!

Dr. Seuss was thought to have been a writer for children, but every parent knows that there was plenty of content to keep the adults amused, too. Someone obviously had an interesting idea in selecting those parts of Dr. Seuss's work that apply to organizations.
The subjects covered include learning, setting goals, avoiding micromanagement, growth, surpassing competitors, cycles, speculation, chaos theory, the stock market, business trips, synergy, maintaining competitive advantage, synergy, delegating, corporate hierarchies, downsizing, innovation, and higher education.
You may well remember some of the rhymes. The idea of getting Horton to sit on the egg in the delegating section brought back happy memories.
The most apt rhyme to me was the one about having a watcher to watch a bee, because watched bees work harder. Except, of course, the bee did the same after it was watched as before.
Each rhyme is wonderfully illustrated.
A good use for this book would be to share the proper rhyme with a colleague who is getting it wrong. Humor is a good way to bust stalls.

Seuss-like Fun for the Workplace!

This book is marvelous and is both fun and educational in Seuss's classic rhyming style! It only left me wondering where the real "Grinch" or the corporate "Once-ler" really were among all the rhyming advice? Well, I finally found lots of those true-to-life "Grinch" and "Once-ler" like characters in the hilarious, educational and insightful satire, "MANAGEMENT BY VICE"!! With short, sharp verses, easy-to-read prose and a uniquely candid directness it addresses many important issues in both the R&D and corporate/managerial worlds! My sincere recommendation for MBA students and those struggling in the corporate mill is to memorize "Seuss-ism's for Success", yet never to forget the wise lessons in "Management by Vice" for they will help you avoid the tougher workplace pitfalls and make the changes that count and lead to greatly improved management/employee relations!

The purpose of this book is to provide a selection of primary source readings to accompany the study of psychology's long history. From the time of ancient societies, intellectual writers have recorded their observations and interpretations of human activities, motives, and emotions. The progression of ideas that led to the post-Renaissance development of empirical science in Europe allowed psychology to assume its present, diverse form. Accordingly, the scope of twentieth-century systems of psychology may be best understood in terms of the evolution of Western thought from the time of antiquity.

While a textbook can provide the outline of this historical development, the writers themselves perhaps best document their thoughts on psychology. This collection of readings can supplement any textual exposition of the history and systems of psychology, and it offers a coherent perspective by itself as well.

After presenting approaches to the scholarly study of psychology's past, the readings follow a general chronology. Following the outlines of most textbooks, the selections introduce the major themes of psychological inquiry, initially considered by Greek scholars and subsequently modified by early Christian writers. As modern science grew out of the Renaissance, the place of psychological inquiry became a source of controversy that resulted in competing philosophical models of the nature of psychology, represented in the writings of Rene Descartes (1596-1650) and Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677). These models followed trends of psychological views proposed by scholars selected from the intellectual climates of France (Etienne Bonnot de Condillac, 1715-1780), Britain (John Locke, 1632-1704; John Stuart Mill, 1806-1873), and Germany (Immanuel Kant, 1724-1804). A teacher's dream

I purchased this book for a graduate course I took and now that I teach psychology I use it all the time. It is great for personal reference and also as assigned reading for students. You are able to give them essays from the great figures of psychology. Because it starts with the early guys like Plato you can extend student's understanding of psych past Wundt. Some of the essays are difficult to read and younger students have some trouble if they don't review them a couple times. But even still, I highly recommend this book.

I read this book for a history and systems of psychology course in my undergraduate degree. I felt that this more so than any other book in my undergraduate years helped me to begin to think like a psychologist, and get the feel for how their minds work. I still read through this text to reground myself in some of the basic fundamental assumptions that led me to go deeper into this field. Highly recommend.

Raymond C. H. Lo

Raymond C. H. Lo is currently the CTO and cofounder of Meta (http://www.getameta.com), a company in Silicon Valley that is creating the world's first augmented reality eyeglasses with 3D gesture input and 3D stereoscopic display. This next-generation wearable computing technology, which is the result of his PhD research, has been featured extensively in news media, including CNN, MIT News, CNET, and Forbes magazine. During his PhD, Raymond worked with Professor Steve Mann, who is widely recognized as the father of wearable computing. Together, they published and presented papers at leading conferences, including the SIGGRAPH and IEEE conferences, on real-time high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging, augmented reality, and digital eyeglasses, which involve high-performance computation using CUDA and visualization using OpenGL.

William C. Y. Lo is currently an MD-PhD candidate at Harvard Medical School. He is pursuing his PhD degree in the joint Harvard-MIT Medical Engineering and Medical Physics program under the guidance of Professor Brett Bouma (and co-advisor Professor Benjamin Vakoc) at Massachusetts General Hospital, who founded the NIH-funded Center for Biomedical OCT Research and Translation. He obtained his bachelor of applied science degree in computer engineering and his MSc degree in medical biophysics from the University of Toronto, where he worked with Professor Lothar Lilge and Professor Jonathan Rose on high-performance computing for photodynamic therapy planning using custom FPGA hardware and graphics processors with CUDA. He, along with J. Rose and L. Lilge, worked on Computational Acceleration for Medical Treatment Planning: Monte Carlo Simulation of Light Therapies Accelerated using GPUs and FPGAs, VDM Verlag, 2010.

Interesting Visualization Projects on Multiple Platforms

This is an excellent book that gets you up and running quickly on OpenGL including the fixed function pipeline (version 2), shaders (version 3) and embedded systems/Android (ES). I appreciated the coverage on various platforms (Android, Linux, Mac, Windows) as I was able to use on Ubuntu 15.04, Windows 7/10, and Yosemite.

The code depends on several open source libraries that jump start the projects to quickly see the reward for the effort. More importantly, the authors clearly explain why they are taking on the dependencies (GLEW for managing OpenGL extensions, GLFW for windowing, GLM for matrix math, SOIL for handling graphics formats, and OpenCV for imaging), I think most of these have fairly permissible licenses so you should be able to re-use without much concern (but I am an engineer and not a lawyer).

The content is in tutorial format so it is a good first read for someone starting with OpenGL without having to search across multiple web sites. You will want to have a good reference with you to satisfy any curiosities about API calls.

I was impressed with the examples that were more interesting than the standard tea pot and simple triangle renderings. Most of the content is generated programmatically through solution of math problems. While the math can be fairly sophisticated, the problems were focused on medicine and I found them relatable despite the fact that medicine is not my principle area of study (but I have a heart beat and the authors take the time to provide background information on what a heart beat plot should look like that was quite interesting).

Anyway, the recipes in the cookbook are related to computer imaging of data based on various mathematical models. You start by drawing a simple sine curve on a 2D plot and progress to 3D contour plots. Then, you will start integrating filters for image processing. There is also a recipe for working with the Microsoft Kinect 3D range sensing camera on Apple, Linux and Windows platforms. After that, there are recipes for rendering stereoscopic images but I did not have the hardware to test the images.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the book as it quickly started my development across several platforms and saved me time and effort otherwise spent reading various web pages.

I struggle to find any criticism. It would be nice to have a recipe for selecting objects (perhaps polygons) with mouse clicks. You also will not find any iOS coverage (at least I did not come across any). Hope this will be in the second edition.

A very good book that covers 2D and 3D data visualization using OpenGL and other libraries, with setup instructions provided for developing applications for Windows, Linux, Mac and Android platforms.

The recipes provides in the book start with the basics, with rendering a rotating triangle and progressively move on to more advanced examples, including:
- a 2D electrocardiogram,
- interactively visualizing complex 3D data sets,
- rendering 2D images and videos with texture mapping and working with OpenCV libraries,
- working with GLSL,
- real-time video rendering with filters,
- rendering 3D point cloud data,
- rendering stereoscopic 3D models,
- creating augmented reality applications.

Very focused, complement other OpenGL books

Very interesting read. It nicely complement other OpenGL books as it focus exclusively on data visualization. Indeed this is one of the few books I am aware of dealing with this topic using OpenGL.
Another good point is given by the accompanying demo source code which runs on my platform of choice (Linux), unlike many other OpenGL books leaning more towards Windows.
In summary, if you are interested in data visualization and you already know enough of OpenGL, this book is worth the money.

The Prada Plan 2 Leah's Story is Ashley Antoinette's delicious sequel to her debut novel the Prada Plan'.Part 2 opens with street-fiction's most infamous villaness Leah Richardson as she offers up a prologue that speaks to you the reader.
It starts off with a bang as Leah is about to exact the ultimate revenge on Indie & Disaya by burying their baby Skylar alive,and shoots off from there showing you the dark circumstances that led her down the road to insanity.After Skylar's disapperance and the pressures of both the kidnapping and Indie's affiliations in the streets. Leah & Indie's family begins to crumble and when betrayal strikes home and both the law & the outlaws get involved no-one is going to escape unscathed.I liked how Disaya is forced to make up an entirely new Prada Plan to come out on top & correct the chain of events that she has set in motion, it really shows her indomitable spirit & dedication to the hustle.A character is re-introduced as( AA ties the Prada Plan in with another of her books Supreme _Clientele)in a way that I could only describe as genius.In the end of the book Leah reaps the reward of her bad karma and as always their are no clear -cut or fairytale endingds.The Prada Plan 2 does not disappoint,and I highly recommend you read this book I loved how it takes you back into Leah's past & forward into Disaya's uncertain future,without leaving you confused and the action is realistic the characters three dimensional & the writing top notch.
Ashley's wordplay touches your every emotion & you really are immersed into her world of deception,drugs,sex,revenge.5 Star Read Mrs Coleman as I said before a New Street Classic.

It was OKAY but....

I like many of you was highly anticipating reading this sequel, and it was a good read however I felt like the author missed the mark on a few things. One thing in particular would have to be the ending, I think that she was so focused on creating a twist that she forgot some of the character details. I also felt like YaYa was not as strong as she should have been, based on how she was described in book one I was definitely shocked at her naivete. Also, I hope the author do not take forever to make a part 3 which I suspect is coming, if not then it makes the ending stupid.

Okay, let me first start by saying I haven't written a review in a while but I just had to voice my thoughts on this one. Like some of the other reviews this sequel was not what I expected. YaYa was so lame and naive in this book which was a huge contridiction to her character in part one. Many of the events in this one were a bit "far-fetched" and just down right "unbelievable." Indie's murder rampage, killing numerous indivuals who had absolutely nothing to do with baby Skylar's kidnapping pissed me off from jump. For Indie the be the "King" the "HNIC" in Houston his actions were downright stupid, not at all thought out and extremely unproductive. I was amazed at the fact that he nor YaYa ever stopped to take the time to have a conversation about "who" would've taken Skylar and "why?" Why would you just start killing people without a clue as to why someone would want to take her. The kidnapping of a child is an extremely "emotional" act thus pointing to a woman. How often do you hear about a man kidnapping a child without rhyme or reason. If Minnie had ordered Skylar to be taken he would have made it known what he wanted from Indie in return for the baby (a trade off so he could avenge the death of one of his soldiers). It's an unspoken rule of the "GAME" that hustlers do not bring harm to children or another hustler's family unless it was an act of deep, personal revenge. YaYa was portrayed as weak and really rather stupid at times but there were two things that stuck with me; First was her escape from the hospital where she goes to Khi-P for help. At this point in the book she's lost everything. She has no home, no car, nothing to call her own and instead of calling Elaine or going to Chase she turns to Khi-P; Goes on a hundred thousand dollar shopping spree and still manages not to gain any financial security for herself thus leaving her dependant on Khi, a man she really doesn't know and shouldn't trust. Second was her showdown with Leah. Months of planning, weeks of stalking and organizing to the point of obsession and she shows up for "WAR" wearing $1000 red stiletto heels (WTF)and why was it necessary to put the price of the shoes in the story? She still got her ass beat in those $1000 shoes. When she finally has Leah just where she wants her she starts BS'ing around and lets Leah gain control of the situation. At this point I was so through with this book but kept reading because I just knew we'd get some kind of reasonable conclusion, NOPE! Another unnessary, unrealistic cliffhanger. I am really starting to tire with stories that require 3, 4 & 5 sequels to conclude. This one definately should have ended with 2. Not sure if I'll be investing my time or money into part 3.
