The object of the Serbian grammar now laid before the public is to give a short account of the chief characteristics of the language. It is believed that these will be found adequately stated, although with great brevity. I have derived some assistance from the grammar of A. Parcic, of which a French translation has appeared but in the classification of the nouns and verbs have followed Miklosich (Vergleichende Grammatik) and Danicic (Облици Cрпскогa Jезика, 3rd edition, Belgrade 1863). The grammatical forms in this little work are treated throughout in such a way as to bring the language in harmony with those of the Old Slavonic, its eldest surviving sister. It is only upon such principles that they can be properly explained.

In treating a language where so many dialects struggle for supremacy, it has been impossible to avoid a certain amount of inconsistency in orthography and grammatical forms, but I have taken pains that all the most prominent variations should be noted.

It presents the central questions, shows how and why they were asked, what the answers were, and how these have led to new questions.

Part I discusses the way in which the overly rich, descriptive rule systems of the fifties and sixties have gradually been replaced by simpler, more constrained rule systems. Much of the work originally done by stipulations in the rules themselves has been taken over by general, universal principles which govern the form and functioning of these rules and the properties of their inputs and outputs. The establishment of such a theory of principles is the main topic of Part II.

Part III addresses the problem of how semantics fits into grammar and elaborates a conception of how the syntactic properties of logical representations can be integrated into the overall theory of grammar. The rules and principles of grammar developed in these parts account for grammatical phenomena in an essentially modular way, and this system of modules, which constitutes the study of grammar today, is established in Part IV.

An Epilogue describes such current developments as generalized binding, phrase structure, small clauses, tree geometry and NP-structure.

I love books that make me cry, have a beautiful narrative, and teach a valuable lesson. A.J.J. Bourque's newest novel does all that for me and more. That's why this book is a treasure to me and needs to be shared. Have tissues ready for this book. It is that special.

Beautiful Prose

There are a number of books about struggling LGBTQ+ youth, and I've read quite a few. This book is not like many of them, and easily stands out. I found myself laughing out loud quite often about the way the main character views and explains little details on his life. That being said, this book tackles issues of self-talk and the darkness in the world with honestly and with grace. The character growth is done very well and I really feel that readers will come to understand how Nicandro changes, and possibly find something beautiful in themselves along the way.

About the Author

FIONA JONES is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Psychological Sciences, University of Leeds, UK. She conducts research on the topic of stress, including the effects of work stress on marital partners and on health behaviours. She is a Chartered Health Psychologist.

RONALD BURKE is Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Ontario, Canada. His work has focused on the relationship between the work environment and the individual’s overall well being. He has published over 500 articles and edited or co-edited 17 books, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association.

MINA WESTMAN is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Management, Tel Aviv University, Israel. Her primary research interests include job and life stress, negative and positive crossover, work-family interchange and the effects of vacations and short business trips.

if you are an international student who wants a good job or a great global career

I know the author of this book, Marcelo Barros, very well because he was my international career coach for 2 years while I was getting my MBA. I worked closely with Marcelo because I was co-president of the Asian MBA Association at my school. Let me say this: if you are an international student who wants a good job or a great global career, follow Marcelo's recommendations and models because he is very experienced and creative with his job search approaches. Marcelo really understands the dynamics of working with international job seekers and he delivers results. I graduated with my MBA 2013 and in my graduating class every international student found a job. Marcelo achieved a RECORD job placement for my university for international students, and many international students got good jobs in the U.S. Basically, there was no difference between the job placement of U.S students compared to international students when I graduated because of Marcelo's work and guidance. The International Advantage is a gift from Marcelo to all of the international students out there. This book will help many international students out there. One last piece of advice: really put into practice the techniques described in my favorite chapter: Become A Global Networker.

A great resource for the US-based job search

As a career professional who has spent the majority of my 20+ year career advising international students, I highly recommend this book! I have advised thousands of international students, and most face the same doubts and challenges, while dreaming of landing that great job here in the United States.
Marcelo is both a colleague and a friend who has lived the international student experience, and survived the CPT/OPT/H-1B /US Permanent Resident employment gauntlet, and more importantly, recognizes the unique value international students bring to an organization.
This book is a valuable mix of inspirational stories and practical advice, to help any student understand how they can stand-out in the competitive employment market, and enhance their educational studies, with U.S. based employment.

Top-notch resource for International Students in the US

I had the pleasure of attending Marcelo's workshop "U.S. Job Search Strategies for International Students" at Stanford Graduate School of Business. As an International student, I aim to work in the US at the end of my studies, and Marcelo provided me and my classmates with useful tools and resources for approaching this challenging task. We worked on a personal SWOT analysis and we discussed the ISEL model (Interest, Skills, Experience, Language) to understand how to best position ourselves to a potential US employer. He also recommended us various free sources to gauge which employers are the most likely to provide a visa sponsorship. As importantly, Marcelo changed our mindset, focusing our attention on what we can influence (a successful job search and an impact on the employer's business) rather than what is beyond our control (the H1B lottery). I truly enjoyed his total competency on the matter, his great communication skills and natural energy. Highly recommended!
