Cooper (Corps Security), by Harper Sloan

Do you take me seriously? Because I don't. I use my jokes and easygoing personality to hide the pain I've felt since he took his last breath. I'm adrift without my partner in crime, my best friend . . . my brother. I can taste the vengeance that's just within my grasp. Until she barges into my life. Promising me happiness and a peace I've been craving for years, she is the sun to my darkness, the happy to my despair. But she holds secrets. Just like I do. She holds hers close, where I just pray mine don't rock the walls we're trying to build. Now I'm stuck at a crossroads between my desire for revenge and my craving for her and the life we could have together-and I have no idea which road I should travel. Contains mature themes.

Wow, just wow!
By Robin (Sizzling Hot Books)
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to discover a series that does so much more than just entertain you. You know what I’m talking about – the series that makes you feel as it touches on every emotion. Harper Sloan’s Corps Security series is one of those series.

The first book in the series, Axel, made me feel both anger and happiness as it dealt with some issues of domestic violence and forgiveness. Cage was next and had so much humor and heart in it that I found myself laughing out loud. Next up was Beck, followed by the novella Uncaged, and I think I went through two boxes of tissues for each one.

Ms. Sloan’s newest installment to this vaulted series is Cooper and while my expectations were set obviously high, I had no doubt that Cooper would not only fulfill them, but probably exceed them. And to nobody’s surprise, it more than exceeded them.
Cooper was about salvation and redemption and had so much heart on every page that I also felt cleansed of most of the sadness left over from Beck. The main focus of this book was on the healing power of love and Ms. Sloan has turned me into a true believer of the idea that love can conquer all.

We first met Asher Cooper in the last book and I have to confess I wasn’t a big fan of his. I know that he had suffered an emotional blow with the death of his brother but I didn’t like how he was dealing with the situation. In this book, the reader was given the opportunity to learn more about the Cooper brothers’ childhood and I not only began to understand Asher’s behavior but wanted to just hug him and tell him that it would be okay.

And the reason it would be okay is because of Chelcie and the “sunshine” that she brought into Asher’s life. I love all of Ms. Sloan’s heroines because they are strong, smart and sassy women who know how to fight for the people they love. I loved Asher and Chelcie together and how they helped pull each other from the sadness and guilt that was drowning them both.

With each book, Ms. Sloan’s writing just gets better and better. The storyline flows so naturally and I am absorbed into the world she has created. I end up losing myself in the pages until I have finally finished the book. When I finished Beck I felt exhausted from the emotional marathon I had been through. This time with Cooper, I felt energized and hopeful again and yet anxious as I realized that it may be awhile before the next book comes out.

Speaking of the next book . . . I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to mention by book boyfriend Maddox. For those who are fans of this series, we all know the hidden emotional depth of Maddox Locke. In Cooper, we continue to see glimpses of the pain that he is dealing with. I was already in love with Maddox before this book, and now my love has reached celestial levels. I cannot wait for Ms. Sloan to write his story so that this amazing man can have his own happy ending.

As much as I want you to read this book, I do not recommend reading it as a standalone. There is too much emotion tied into this book from the others in the series and in order to truly appreciate Asher and Chelcie’s journey you need to have read the others. Each of the others was a five star review for me as well, so you know that you will be reading some amazing books. You won’t regret it!

Cooper...

Don't get me wrong, I love the series. However, how is it that everyone one of the heros in these books act like a caveman. And what's with all of them saying "mine". And all the overdone pet names. I really like the books but it is so repetitive in every book. Each story is different, nothing's the same except how each and every hero/heroine dynamic. The men should grab the women by the hair and drag them to their caves.

Entertaining If You Like Jerry Springer Like Theme
By Amjedi
Hmm, not sure how I feel about this book. Same hot alpha man, adorable, smart, witty, somewhat vulnerable heroine. We get to revisit with the characters from the previous books. Hot, sexy love scenes, what's not to like, right? Great chemistry between the characters. I guess for me, it was a little too Jerry Springer-ish that Asher fell in love with his dead brother's baby mama. Now, I know that Chelcie and Coop weren't really a couple, they had a one night stand, but it still felt weird to me, she was still carrying Coop's baby and he just died! The 2nd thing that was weird is that their relationship didn't bother ANYONE! There wasn't one person at the CS that didn't say, "wait a minute, this is strange?" And then finally, the little dramatic twist at the end where Chelcie is in danger (won't give it away) but really? Out of left field and therefore it seemed contrived and unbelievable. I'm really sorry I can't give this a better review bc I like the series a lot, and I plan to read the next book which focuses on Maddox, but this one didn't quite do it for me. I have read other books where the brothers are involved with the same woman, so I know this is a common theme in romance novels (I thought Kristen Ashley did a nice job with this theme in her latest book, The Promise) but it just didn't work for me here. It's not the writing, which was great, but just the theme/plot just didn't seem plausible to me. Sorry I can't give it a higher rating.
