A fantastic resource for anyone working with track and field (Athletics) athletes, and really anyone working in sport. The author presents a lot of information here. Now while some of the scientific foundations early on in the book could be better covered by other texts, the latter portions of the book are outstanding. Frank Dick illustrates his points with practical examples of how he has applied principle into practice.
Make sure you get the latest edition - which is vastly updated and relates much of the information to team sports such as football (soccer). Some of the book is still dated, but as I have said in other reviews, this does not mean it should just be written off right there and then. Tried and trusted methods still should carry weight in the modern world of sport science and training theory.

About the Author
Joaquim Paulo is a consultant for major labels and directs a number of radio stations in Portugal. He started collecting vinyl at 15, and flies to London, Paris, New York and S�o Paulo to enrich his collection of over 25,000 LPs. He lives and works in Lisbon and dedicates his free time to recovering old and rare recordings.

Julius Wiedemann studied graphic design and marketing, and was an art editor for digital and design magazines in Tokyo. His many TASCHEN titles include Illustration Now!, Logo Design, Jazz Covers and Information Graphics.

I really enjoyed this book. I actually owned a lot of these albums and recognized most of the ones I didn't own. I would've given it 5 stars if it were'nt for two things. The space that was used for three languages limited the information about the artists, and not having one entry by the Dramatics, when lesser known groups and artists were included. Overall this book would make an excellent addition to any soul music lovers book collection.

Takes Me Back To The Day!

I received this book for XMas after seeing it in an issue of Essence magazine last fall. The photos are great, plenty of albums I remember and some artists I hadn't heard of or don't recall who I may check out. I wish there had been more information about some of the artists and their music (some cover photos don't have any essays associated with them) and that for each one the entries weren't repeated in 3 languages - English, and I believe French and Dutch. Otherwise, great photo book!

En primer lugar, proporciona al estudiante el lexico imprescindible para poder entablar una comunicacion relacionada con el area tematica en cuestion.Dedica una atencion especial a las variantes hispanoamericanas, concretamente mexicanas y argentinas, como exponentes mas significativos de dos grandes zonas geograficas, en cuanto a las diferencias con el espanol peninsular. La presencia de vocablos de estas variantes se resalta en recuadros para facilitar su reconocimiento. Por otro lado, propone actividades para utilizar el lexico nuevo en contexto, tanto con ejercicios controlados como con actividades creativas. Se trata de un vocabulario tematico, la seleccion del lexico se ha realizado en funcion de la frecuencia de uso. La serie de ejercicios que sigue a cada vocabulario exige, en un principio, un reconocimiento de los vocablos presentados y conlleva, el aprendizaje de otros nuevos, ademas de proporcionar orientacion en la precision de su uso. La inclusion de un ejercicio de verbos es constante en todos los capitulos, ya que resulta imprescindible para un total conocimiento del tema. La realizacion de ejercicios variados de sinonimos, antonimos y derivados tiene por objeto un enriquecimiento lexico y la posibilidad de obtener mayor seguridad en la formacion de palabras. Todo ello capacitara gradualmente al alumno para poder expresar sus ideas y llegar a argumentarlas.En el apartado Expresionario se introduce e incrementa el conocimiento de modismos, refranes y frases hechas de uso frecuente entre los hablantes nativos.Las secciones Vamos a hablar! y Situaciones proponen la practica directa de conversacion y sirven de punto de partida para alcanzar fluidez en la destreza oral.
